When reading about rhyme I've often read that Italian is 'the easiest' or 'the best' language to rhyme in. But I've never come across an article that says why this is so. Do you think that this is a credible claim or a perpetuated myth?

I don't speak Italian, but I do know something about form. A language will create forms that are natural to its construction. Italian poetry has a strong tradition of continuous rhyme that the language is able to support. Take a look at the Divine Comedy in its original language, and even if you're not familiar with Italian the diversity in rhyme it's able to convey is astounding.
