In my latest poll I asked people that watched me what form of discrimination they have endured and what has affected them the most personally. I decided to do a journal as I reduced the number of options down to seven. At the end I will explain what this is all about, and if you would like to help me out on this project, I'll let you know the details. Here are the ten options as they stand now:

:bulletorange: Weightism
:bulletorange: Sexism
:bulletorange: Ableism
:bulletorange: Ageism
:bulletorange: Racism
:bulletorange: Ethnicism
:bulletorange: Linguicism
:bulletorange: Vocationism
:bulletorange: Colorism
:bulletorange: Religious Discrimination

Some great points that were brought up

Stuff we noticed:

:bulletorange: Religionism is not the proper term. HaveTales-WillTell and ArtisticallyLiterate
:bulletorange: Sexism does not encompass Gender and Sexual Orientation discrimination. AzizrianDaoXrak and angeljunkie
:bulletorange: Discrimination based on someone's appearance isn't accounted for (prejudice for how one dresses, if they have tattoos or pierceings, their hair color or length and eye colour). inknalcohol
:bulletorange: Colorism and Racism have a substantial overlap in the public's eye. HaveTales-WillTell
:bulletorange: Reverse Discrimination isn't accounted for (discrimination that occurs because of countermeasures to prevent discrimination towards certain groups).  HaveTales-WillTell
:bulletorange: Political, genetic, educational, caste (social status) and financial standing and retaliation discrimination aren't accounted for. Nichrysalis

The Total: 20

:bulletorange: Weightism :bulletorange: Sexism :bulletorange: Ableism :bulletorange: Ageism :bulletorange: Racism :bulletorange: Ethnicism :bulletorange: Linguicism :bulletorange: Vocationism :bulletorange: Colorism :bulletorange: Religious Discrimination :bulletorange: Political Discrimination :bulletorange: Reverse Discrimination :bulletorange: Retaliation Discrimination :bulletorange: Educational Discrimination :bulletorange: Caste Discrimination :bulletorange: Financial Status Discrimination :bulletorange: Genetic Discrimination :bulletorange: Discrimination of Appearance :bulletorange: Gender Discrimination :bulletorange: Sexual Orientation Discrimination

    The Process

Step 1: Eliminate Redundant or Specific Forms of Prejudice
Weightism Sexism Ableism Ageism Racism Ethnicism (closely related to racism) Linguicism (too specific) Vocationism (too specific) Colorism (closely related to racism) Religious Discrimination Political Discrimination Reverse Discrimination Retaliation Discrimination (too specific, closely related to RD) Educational Discrimination (closely related to castes) Caste Discrimination Financial Status Discrimination (closely related to castes) Genetic Discrimination (too specific) Discrimination of Appearance Gender Discrimination Sexual Orientation Discrimination
    Step 2: Group Similar Forms
Physical and Mental Weightism Ableism Ageism Sex and Gender Sexism Gender Discrimination Sexual Orientation Discrimination Culture and Ethnicity Racism Caste Discrimination Belief and Affiliation Religious Discrimination Political Discrimination Reverse Discrimination (too undefined and misunderstood to communicate) Discrimination of Appearance (too varied)
Step 3: Eliminate, Rename or Further Rearrange
Physical and Mental Weightism Ableism Ageism Sex and Gender (rename Ipsism) Sexism (merge with Ipsism) Gender Discrimination (merge with Ipsism) Sexual Orientation Discrimination (merge with Ipsism) Culture and Ethnicity Racism Caste Discrimination (rename Classism) Belief and Affiliation Religious Discrimination (rename Creedism) Political Discrimination (this is a topic I don't think would be a good one to touch)

    The Final Judgement

:bulletblue: Weightism :bulletblue: Ableism :bulletblue: Ageism :bulletblue: Ipsism :bulletblue: Racism :bulletblue: Classism :bulletblue: Creedism

And yes, I did make up terms. Here's what they mean:

Ipseity - an individual's identity or selfhood.
Ipsism - discrimination based on how someone identifies themselves.
Creed - a formal system of belief; a faith.
Creedism - discrimination based on someone's system of belief or faith.

What am I doing with this project?

This will be a spoken word project. Everything written for it will be intended for an audience, and not for the page. I live in the city where the slam poetry movement originated, and I want to live up to some of the area's great slam and performance poets. This project, The Seven Deadly Isms will be based on varying prejudices people have today in the hopes of bringing attention to them. The name for this project comes from the Roman Catholicism's "seven deadly sins" and I will try to tie into those as much as I can when able to.

I've begun work on my first piece: Weightism. I'm trying something very risque and possibly vulgar with it, but if written right, it should convey the effect I am looking for. If you would like to help me polish these pieces before I attempt to perform them, please NOTE ME. I'm looking for all the feedback, critique and help I can get.

Thank you,
Nic
